Common
mistakes
to avoid when buying a sign

|
| 10.
Choosing the wrong background material. |
 | Select durable substrates for exterior use, lower cost backings
for inside use such as cardboard, paper or vinyl. |
|
| 9.
Making all lettering the same size. |
 | Emphasize the most important idea in your sign such as "Win
This Car!" Make other information smaller, in order of
importance. |
|
| 8.
Using phone numbers. |
 | People usually don't remember them so, if used at all, keep them
small. |
|
| 7.
Too much information. |
 | Limit your copy to the minimum needed to communicate your
message. The white space left around your message will make
reading easier & faster. |
|
| 6.
Missing your target market. |
 | Design a sign that's the right size for your audience, such as
3' posters for pedestrians, and 12' banners for passing cars. |
|
| 5.
Pretty colors that won't read well. |
 | The main copy color should contrast against the background for
the best readability. Lighter colors have less
contrast and should be used for secondary copy and graphics. |
|
| 4.
Creating the wrong impression. |
 | Use an appropriate typestyle. If it's for a gym, don't choose
script. Don't use block lettering for an elegant restaurant. |
|
| 3.
Designing your own sign. |
 | Gather information, look at other signs for ideas, then talk to
our sign consultants. |
|
| 2.
Inconsistent logos, typestyles, & colors. |
 | Keep your image uniform in all advertising:
including signs, stationery, ads and printed material. |
